I let her go

Tags: love

When I look back upon that day
All those many years ago
And think of what may have been
When I laid my eyes upon her
That day in the college canteen.

As I looked at her from afar
My heart started to beat faster
I could not help but stare
At the beauty before me
And wonder if she was an angel from above.

My eyes looked her up and down
The beautiful feminine figure
Slowly I looked up her body
And into her big beautiful eyes
In an instant, I realised she was the one.

Secretly I hoped, did she feel the same?
My mind wandered for a split second
Shall I approach and buy her a drink?
That’s what went through my mind
But I needed to know how she felt.

Unfortunately, my shyness began to get to me
And my confidence began to wane
I started to question my sanity
Finally, I decided to approach
But could I be too late?

Finally, I collected my composure
And looked up, but she was gone
Where is she? I thought
I wished I had been more upfront
Should have approached, when I had the chance.

My thoughts started to wonder
Did she feel the same way?
And did she notice me?
Had she hoped that I would approach
Was she disappointed that I never did?

Despite all these years later
I still think about her
If I had been more forward at the time
Could I have stood a chance?
And been her one and only?

But now I realised, I let go the one I loved
Until you realise what could’ve been
The life that you could’ve had
I could have been here when she needed me
And be her shoulder, her muse, her forever.

Only she will always be in my heart
Even if she doesn’t even realise
After all these years later
I came to realise I let go the one I loved
You only know that, when you’ve loved someone
When you let them go.
