Author's Notes

"I originally wrote this poem for a friend in 2005 who had survived cancer. I never realized that in 2008 I would have a fast-acting prostate cancer myself, how my life would change with the treatments and surgery, and to truly understand what a difference 6 months would make if I had delayed having the biopsy in order to determine if I had cancer or not."

Today, I celebrate life.

After I found out I had cancer,
There was a time
When I didn't know if I would
Live to see tomorrow or another year.

I could have died and left you sad and alone.
But after months of treatments and a year and a half later.
I received the news I longed to hear...
No more cancer you're all clear.

Today,
I stand before you
To let you know that
I celebrate life.

By the grace of God
I am a survivor
And every day I live
Is truly a miracle.

If you should see me shouting for joy,
Praising His name and giving Him thanks,
It's all because of God
And his Healing Angels.

Is truly a celebration of life.
