Author's Notes

"The fiery, stubborn, kind, creative little lights in my life are the same age as the youngest victims in Uvalde. Those parents should've never lost their children so young. The surviving kids shouldn't have to live w/ these memories, w/ the lifelong repercussions of surviving a school shooting. My heart hurts & I am terrified for every child in this country right now. Something needs to change. Rating is G because if kids are being allowed to die in shootings they should be able to read this."

New budding flowers are poking through the earth
Cottonwoods are irritating my allergies
The sky is a brilliant, bright blue
Fluffy white clouds
Warm sunlight on a glistening river
Summer just around the corner.

An awards show
and pictures
and proud smiles
and excitement -
Summer break just around the corner.

As the gunman came around the corner.
