Grass

I lie in the grass becoming part of it

I lie back in the
grass we
keep long for
the butterflies.

watching the
clouds scudding
across the sky

feeling the
tall stalks
swaying in
the wind

Remembering
when I was a
child running
bare legged
down a grassy
slope,

falling and
grazing my knees
with green
blood of the
grass embedded
in my skin.

An ant crawls
into my ear.
A blade of
grass tickles
my face;
the only place
that I can feel

If I could
only turn and
taste the sweet
juicy stem again.

Now I complete
the cycle of
birth, childhood
adulthood
and death.
