I certainly wasn't looking at all that day for a friend
Problems in my world and unhappy some days
Filling my time and trying to keep busy in so many ways
I gave it a shot and started to talk, wishing our conversations would not end

You listened politely never judging my actions
No matter the subject, you just lent me your ear
Manners and literate, a bonus at times missing I fear
You left for a while, returned, perhaps you can imagine my reaction

Know that I will always love and listen to you
Returning the favor is the very least gift I can give
My life benefits with our friendship, I'm happy again that I live
I admire so many things, your creativity and skill in all that you do

Life is happy and content in my world now
Finding a lifelong friend and confidant was the best thing
Unburdening ill feelings, just laughing at jokes, I am happy now when I look at my ring
How do you thank such friendship freely given? I'm not sure how

Maybe with a few lines of poetry, eagerly written but not with much finesse
Your place in my heart is firmly fixed, no escape for you now, my friend
You put things in perfect perspective for me, it always works out in the end
It's not enough, but I'll say thank you and stop writing before I make this poem more of a mess
