Oh, there’s naught like a poem for the holiday

No matter how ponderous the tome.

If you want to be happy in a special way,

Find yourself a well-written holiday poem.

....................................................................

Go find something by Longfellow or Whittier

Or maybe a sonnet by the Bard

And if that’s all too heavy for your palate, Dear

Then just settle for a pretty greeting card.

.........................................................................

You’ll find cards with snowmen and reindeer on them

At your local notions store upon the rack.

And if you find one that strikes your fancy, Dear,

You can get a bunch of fifty in a pack.

...............................................................

Then just mail out some poems for the holiday

Though the postage may be horrible to bear.

If you make people happy for a special day

Maybe they’ll keep smiling all throughout the year.
