Old warrior searching for sanctuary

It was foretold

A candle burning in a north facing window to light the way

A fair maiden to end his madness

So it was written when time was an infant

Sword and shield pitted and scarred

Battle ax rusted and dull

Spirit and soul weary from war

His path long and winding hard from toil

An old warrior still proud and bold

Wishing to find peace for his soul

Dreaming of his days of youth and his deeds of valor

Those days of old

The snow fell, his eyes closed, his steed plodded on

Cold burning ever deeper

Sight getting dimmer

A light in the darkness

Sanctuary and shelter

A door opens a shadow of hope

Firelight flickering her face hidden

She takes him to her bed

Warmth and comfort

She loves him

Peace he found laying in her arms

His acceptance won

Restless spirit calmed

Her heartbeat a soothing balm to all his old scars

Early morning sunlight

Winter jays singing

She finds her bed empty

Was it a dream

She could still feel his warmth

By the hearth under a north facing window

Sword and ax crossed over a shield

Lion emblem blazed

His gift

Early spring a rounded bump a faint kick

A soft smile

She remembered her warrior

A new life

Some of his youth he left behind
