Toyland Changes

Humpty Dumpty and Three Little Pigs caught the Old Woman in the Shoe,

They knocked her and bopped her until they were stopped by a Little Boy Blue.

Where have all the nursery rhymes gone? What has up-ended their reign?

Was it radio or TV? Or insidious video games?

Baa, Baa, Black Sheep, have you any pull?

Is it MTV or X-Box that replaced all your wool?

Where have all the jump ropes gone? What has taken their place?

Hopscotch abandoned, for cell phones and camisole lace.

Techno-this and techno-that makes my head to spin,

Self-contained thing-a-ma-bobs never ever get plugged in.

Who could imagine fifty years ago the state of toys today,

When Hula Hoops and Matchbox cars were all packed away?

Where have all the flowers gone? Will this be our next fad?

Electronic scents and graphic displays to make us happy or sad?

Parents: Teach your children well, before you are replaced,

By robot mom and dad, courtesy of Microsoft’s Mr. Gates.
