Here are a few examples from books published over the last 100 years.

This is but one of several covers that have graced F. Scott Fitzgerald's classic novel.

Artist: Shepard Fairey
For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires. Hebrews 4:12

I owned this paperback many many years ago. It's frighteningly accurate if you know the title story of the collection.

The girl in cemetery haunted him ...

Cemetery Girl

Panther's UK paperbacks of American fantasy writer Clark Ashton Smith had incredible covers. Still have them on my book shelf three decades after I collected them from various used bookshops.

The girl in cemetery haunted him ...

Still ranks as one of my top 10 novels of all time.
