Had a brief storm this afternoon that knocked my power off for half an hour or so. Being as I am working from home, it meant I had to knock off early. At least they fixed it quickly. Originally, they had the ETA at 11pm. Would have made getting dinner ready a challenge. In fact, we were talking about getting takeout from the local Viet-Thai place but realized they were in the blacked out area, too.
Anyhoo, I'll take a nice herbal tea and a couple of those cookies.
Sonja did not have a cat. So why was this one making itself at home in her house?

The metal singer made Brenda an interesting offer, but was her interest in the music ... or him?

The only good thing about all those thunderstorms and the stupidly hot weather is having a garden full of fresh vegetables, fruits, and herbs. I picked a ton of basil and made enough pesto to freeze for future use.
I also am growing cherry tomatoes, heirloom tomatoes, a few different varieties of large tomatoes, tomatillos, cucumbers, a variety of hot peppers, lavender, thyme, rosemary, cilantro, and dill. Had strawberries come and gone and now waiting for watermelons and cantaloupes
It makes cooking more fun to be able to go pick what is ripe and center dinner around it.
Tonight it's homemade pasta with fresh pesto and bruschetta on crostini.
I hope everyone has had a good week.
TGIF.
Cheers Everyone!
Rained last night and into this morning so our heat wave and drought appear to be over. Cleaning is done and a new blind for the kitchen window is hung, just kicking back now.
Got a surprise at lunch time. My wife noticed bird poop on the deck and then looked up and realized there was a nest right over the spot in our Japanese maple. We can see it clearly from our son's room and there's three fairly large baby robins in it so it must have been there for a while now. We just never noticed it. In fact, I was standing right under it barbequing yesterday. It is a better spot than the one they used to use. They used to build a nest in the ivy on the porch pillar at the front. Didn't work so well and I buried a couple of the babies last year.
Have some pictures on my camera (Yes, I still have a real camera. Better for zooming than a phone.) and I'll post one once they are downloaded.

A Saturday salute to Larry, Scott, and dang near anyone else who shows up and doesn't take all the cookies. And speaking of cookies, I'm gonna follow our leader's example when it comes to picking out a few but will go with coffee instead of tea.
BTW, Scott your news about the nest of baby robins is way cool, imo. Please keep us posted.
I have a very good source for tea here in London so, yeah, I've been restocking. Both here and at home. With David's Tea in decline (badly), I'm glad I found a local business to support.
Hmmm. I think I shall have an orange fudge pinwheel.

Virginia has had a mask mandate for a while now. Most people are wearing a mask. I occasionally see someone without one. I do see quite a few people who don't have it pulled up over their nose. Sigh..
I made the mistake of trying to do my eyebrows today. It was not a successful experiment.
I need to stop stress baking or step up my physical activity. Long walks are no longer going to be enough.
Today I made blueberry scones and a blueberry sour cream coffee cake. I'm taking advantage of farmer's markets being open.
I'll leave some on the counter.
Cheers Everyone!
