Hi Sara, thanks for looking after us!

Larry, I'm so pleased it's your final treatment of the week today. When do they want you back for a check-up?

Gill, I'm glad the weather is good with you for the moment. The outdoor dance class (in a tennis court with a sea view) was a joy. Such fun and plenty of laughter. The concert your son went to sounds like a brilliant way to enjoy live music safely.

Hi Xander!

I'll grab a lemon and ginger tea before turning in.

Larry, I'm glad you are finished with your treatments.

Cynthia, the outdoor dance class sounds amazing. A neighbor here has been doing yoga classes in a nearby park when weather permits.

My son went to a concert last weekend. It was held at a county fairground. You drove your car in and had your own space. He was very happy to find a safe live music event.

I think I have too many streaming options. Too many choices lead to not making any choice.

It's been warm and humid for the last few days. Today is beautiful. I'll enjoy it because I am sure I'll be complaining about the cold before too long.

I hope everyone has a good weekend.

Cheers!

You are right..get your puffy coat fluffed up for Sunday....
How y'all are? I'm onboard big time with the chorus of 'Best Wishes' directed toward our, Larry, the aptly named, Survivor.

I've fallen behind schedule on my competition entry. Sharing a suite in a residential care facility with a spouse in the latter stages of dementia can play hell with schedules. But I still have her and we can still communicate. As some of you can testify, things could be a lot worse.

Out here in the desert, temps have plummeted and are now hovering around 82f at sunset. Think I'll whip up a mug of hot chocolate, liberate a handful of Sarah's cookies then go sit outside in the 'gloaming' Grab yourself some refreshment and come join me and let me know how I did spelling, 'gloaming'. ;)

Later, Inspirators..
I can't sleep but I welcome it because there's a certain comfort in being awake late at night.

My heart has wi-fi and the password is Christopher Pike.

Good morning!

Sending good vibes down to Larry after his treatment. Hope this does put an end to this chapter in your medical history.

Xander, I wish I had your attitude to being up at night but it bothers me to no end when I can't get to sleep because I know I will be dealing with the effects the next day or two after.

Nice but cool here. Rump, when we say the temperature falls up here, 82F is usually the starting point, not the destination.

Kettle's on. Coffee machine, too. Danishes, doughnuts, and other such goodies laid out on the snack counter (along with the inevitable cookie jars). Help yourselves!

Sonja did not have a cat. So why was this one making itself at home in her house?

Well, don't get me wrong cause it took me awhile to accept that I'm pretty much nocturnal but yeah, I hear you.

So, I just rolled back all the edits I did on my Full Length story entry today. Just can't seem to get it right and hit the length I want. Try again tomorrow. I generally like the story, just finding a lot of fiddly bits in the writing I don't like.

Good day. It really feels like winter is close. It's nice having the hot coffee ready.

I'm probably in the minority but I love a cold rainy Sunday.

We spent yesterday looking at properties and houses on the Northern Neck of Virginia. In a few years, we want to leave the DC metro area.

It was an interesting day. Some places were very rural, a bit too much for me. They were too far away from any doctors, grocery stores, etc. Did see a few places that were a more reasonable distance but it would still be a huge change for us. You get spoiled when everything is within an easy drive. Going to keep looking at places in Virginia near or on the water, either the Chesapeake Bay or one of the many rivers.

Today is a lazy day for reading and finding my next guilty binge-worthy show.

I hope everyone has been having a good weekend.

Cheers!
I wouldn't mind getting out of the city a bit. We are just South of Lake Huron and there's plenty of small communities up there where we could move. Or we could get some lakefront property between communities, which would be my ideal. They get more snow up there but this would likely be post-retirement so won't matter much if we get snowed for a couple days. And, really, after working from home most of the past 7 months, I am pretty sure I could manage it. Only question mark might be the quality of the Internet up there. My wife is more of a city girl, though, (she grew up in Shanghai, China, which makes even the largest cities in Canada look tiny by comparison) so not sure if it will happen or not.

Floors washed. Now contemplating raking some leaves. It's cool out but there's only a slight chance of showers so it is probably safe to do yard work.

I smile at Gill's report on the Northern Neck. She is absolutely right about access to top quality medical care. Richmond is it.

And I spent years disagreeing with my husband about moving permanently to our weekend place in the Shenandoah Valley. Thought I would have nothing to do or anyone to talk to except farm wives and I wasn't raising crops or animals.

But lo and behold, it has been great. Have large group of good women friends and not one of them milks cows. All imports from D.C. area. We are on the Shenandoah River and while it is small where we are, still beautiful with the mountains in the back drop. Good shopping and medical care is almost an hour away (like Richmond) but there is plenty of choices (Winchester, Harrisonburg, UVA at Charlottesville. People living here get used to driving much farther than I ever thought I'd get used to.

Scott, I know you would love to be on the Lake and hope it all works out.
The coffee is perking now and the water is simmering.

Victor got a surprise when he went out this morning. Our first snow of the season and it is not actually the season yet. He got to wear his little red hoodie since it was freezing outside.

I suppose the townhome I live in now is my retirement home. I moved here when I had just turned 67 years old. This is a nice area for all the amenities that older people can use. Our medical facilities are within 15 minutes all around town and the best hospital in the entire region is only 45 minutes away. Shopping is just as close. Even better is the fact that nature is so close to us as well. I have a state park with a lake and a marina just down the road 5 miles. We have a lovely little park across the street with 3 large ponds. Lots of geese all year round, along with herons, and egrets. Beaver and muskrats live in the stream across the road. We have deer, turtles, snakes, every little critter you could want just outside the door and we are still right on the edge of a university town of around 100,000 people.

Virginia has some nice country. We visited Shenandoah National Park and the Blue Ridge Parkway on a family trip a couple years back and we drove down so saw a lot of territory on the way. It is a surprisingly short drive from Ontario to Virginia, esp. if you have multiple drivers so can rotate rather than taking a lot of breaks.

Western Canada had snow a week or two ago and it reached as far as Northwestern Ontario but my region has been spared so far. Definitely Fall, but no sign of the white stuff (yet).

Well, let me tell you, it's like this. I've just submitted a contest entry in the long form category. What with the proverbial one thing and another, it's been many moons since I submitted anything of any length. Chaulk it up to RL, depression, and the writer's block from hell. . What made everything even more 'interesting' was my having all new software featuring fiendishly depraved new features, along with tweaks to the Lush/Stories Space package

But it is now accomplished. Once I've recuperated from all the writerly trauma, I'll see if there's -a non-contest story or two anxiously waiting for some sort of approval. ;)
No doubt a mug of coffee and a handful of Sarah's cookies should speed up that process.

:Later, Inspirators.

You are so right about the beauty of the New River Valley - no wonder you grew up so sweet and pretty.
I know I never tell you how many of your cookies I eat every day. Come on, read what is going on and have such a hard time not taking one of everything. You do know you spoil us all.

I am so excited that Bill wrote a story and can't wait to read it. I love all his writing.

And Victor must have thought he was pretty sharp out in the snow with his red hoodie. Makes me smile.
In the words of the psalmist, "I couldn't sleep at all last night." So instead of tossing and turning in bed, I slipped in here through the unlocked, as always, back door. There's now a fresh pot of coffee and a kettle full of hot water if tea is your thing. All that at the cost of a dent in the cookie supply.

On my way out I'm leaving an official pimp of my contest entry which Karen was kind enough to mention. BTW, so far, no commenter has mentioned being nauseated by reading, 'Commuting To An Unplanned Future'.Here's the link.

Hello, everyone! Rumps, I loved your comp story. Great to read something from you and hope that pesky writer's block stays away!

Hello Elizabeth and Sara, I'm afraid my knowledge of geography is so poor that the areas you mentioned are just (very nice-sounding) words to me!

Here in Ireland, it's damp, grey and chilly. So that's us for the winter then!

I'll grab a handful of Sara's delicious cookies and a coffee to wake me up.
It's nice to see both Cynthia and Bill up and about. Thanks for the coffee, Bill. There won't be much going outside today. There is still snow on the ground.

I have the five shortest contest entry categories written now. I'm going to see if I can get the five other longer stories written by the end of the month.

Good afternoon. I have one story in each competition and may have to settle for that. I'll try to get a couple more Ultra Short or Flash stories in, but I'm not promising anything. Inspiration needs to strike.

My full length entry (in 2581 words category) is now up so please read and comment. It is horror so is also my Hallowe'en story for this year.

Now, let's see what Sara left in the cookie jars while the kettle boils...

Hurry up! Time's a wastin'!

Saw this on NASA's Twitter feed, one of three Halloween themed fake movie posters they put up. Thought it, esp. the tagline, kind of works with my Full Length entry.

Happy Hump Day Here's your good news for the day. By the next Hump Day, the presidential election will have come and gone though the final scorecard may still be fought over. Hey, I said it was good, not great, news.

Coffee's cooking, the tea kettle is full of pure water and ready to do its duty. Me, I'm gonna fill my mug, grab a few cookies and hunker down in a warm corner (it's 45f) out here in the desert) to read more contest entries.

Later, Inspirators.

Trust me, we Canucks are eager to see the end of this election cycle, too. And, hopefully, the end of 45.

Sadly, I must attend a work meeting today even though I am technically on vacay. Hope its short and quiet but that's not really the nature of the meeting. * sighs and grabs a cookie *

Good morning, dear friends. Gosh, it is so cold so early this year. I will wait and do my weekly shopping tomorrow. It is supposed to be warmer in the coming days.

I have fresh coffee brewing. Arabica for the coffee drinkers. The tea drinkers may choose from all the teas that Scott has on the shelves. And there are still lots of cookies just waiting to fill your hunger. Sara is so good about keeping us stocked, either on the countertop or in the backup tins in the back.

Aren't we having fun with this contest? I've got six stories finished so far. Other members are not far behind. Something for everyone's taste.

Edit: I went into the contests and counted the entries. We now have 24 ultra-short entries, 12 flash entries, and 8 long entries. That is going to be a great chore for some wonderful judges to go through.
Yeah, there was a real run of new stories yesterday, eh. I started a new story last night but not sure I'll get it done by Saturday so it may end up as a non-comp story. Was going to work on it today but got sucked into a problem at work. So much for vacation.

Oo, Hallowe'en cookies. I think I'll have a black cat and a pumpkin with my breakfast tea.

...somebody followed my Janestagram (and yes, I really do have an IG devoted to her) and...well, idk what I was expecting, but now my body is full of butterflies and I forgot to get coffee cause they're also a Janestagram.

...and on another note, hey to anyone here. I'm getting coffee before I get distracted again.
