The coffee is brewing, never fear. Aren't we getting a lot of traffic on the site now? These contests are doing a nice job of stirring up some enthusiasm don't you think? Still, time to get in a story or two if you are waiting to enter.

This will be my shopping day today. The temperature is heating up slightly so it won't be too cold to get out and about.

Everyone, be careful out there.

Chilly here today with a chance of showers. Still might try to squeeze in a walk but we shall see how things shake out.

I think I shall leave my comp participation at the current three stories. My new story is going to be longer than I can get reasonably get done by tomorrow given my perfectionist approach to editing. Perhaps an idea for something in Ultra Short will come to me, though. Those I can do in a day or so based on experience writing micros for another site.

Tea time!

Sonja did not have a cat. So why was this one making itself at home in her house?

Calico Cupid - Summer Love contest entry

The metal singer made Brenda an interesting offer, but was her interest in the music ... or him?

Fine, I take that back. Right after I posted that, I came up with a 100 word poem and just entered it. So that's four now.

It is Halloween. Too bad there will be no trick or treaters out this year. Well, even last year we only had about three or four who stopped by. It is the tradition in our city for many folks, young and old, to get into costumes and parade up and down the main street of town while merchants hand out candy to the younger folks. Most of them do not go around in the neighborhoods on a good year. Well, especially none this year. And the tradition will not be followed, either.

What a shame.

The coffee is finished. The water is hot. Enjoy your mornings here in the coffee house.

I think if I was going to a Halloween party tonight, I would put on a tux, slip a toy gun into a shoulder holster, and carry a gun-metal cigarette case (of candy cigarettes). Sir Sean Connery died at 90. One of my favorite actors of all time. So many great parts, even if he is still chiefly remembered for playing James Bond.

Hmmm. No martini ingredients here so I guess I will have a Scottish Breakfast tea in honour of Connery's beloved homeland (he was an ardent Scottish nationalist).

Why isn't Halloween mistletoe a thing? Or, you know, some kind of equivalent?

What do mad scientists drink their beer from? ... Frankensteins.

Okay, that was kind of sad even for me. Nice-ish day here (for October 31). Went for a walk for my daily exercise. Saw some kids in their costumes and lots of Halloween decorations. You would barely know that COVID is happening, really.

Kissing over the jack o'lantern? Kissing under the skeleton hanging in your tree (saw a few of those this afternoon)? You're right. Halloween needs a kissing tradition. Just need to decide what it should be.

Maybe this is why kissing isn't a Halloween thing... https://www.storiesspace.com/stories/flash-fiction/-the-night-.aspx

Hi Peeps. Wishing you all Happy Halloween!

Here is something for Scott. I know he loves the classics!

Yeah. Not that I actually need an excuse to kiss Jane, but yknow...if anyone asks.

How y'all are? I was better until my LSU Tigers got whipped like the proverbial rented mule by Auburn. Sarah should be in a better mood since her Va Tech Hokies outscored Louisville.

On our own competition front, as of a few minutes ago, all three sections were still open. FWIW, the Flash category has 15 entries, the shorter than Flash category has 28, and the 'long' category has ten entries. IMO, those are impressive totals.

Coffee's on, water's hot. The rest is up to y'all.

Later, Inspirators.

Brilliant to see all the buzz about the competitions here! I have some catch-up reading to do.

As we are in semi-lockdown, it was a quiet Halloween here, although next door's eight-year-old did pop round to show off her skeleton costume at a safe distance!

I'll grab a coffee and one (or two) of Sara's delicious cookies.

Indeed. I was going to do another count myself but Rump has saved me the trouble. With three comps and that number of stories, the judges are going to be busy little beavers for a while.

Good thing Halloween was yesterday because the weather here has gone into "haunting" mode. High winds and rain until at least noonish they are saying, then a chance of showers for the remainder of the day. At least the wind might get more of the damn leaves down. Three of my trees have dropped but others are stubbornly hanging on. That said, it is fairly normal to have some trees still with leaves at first snowfall.

I am going to relax for a day or so with the writing frenzy I was in for a while. Let's see how our contests turn out.

Ready for that coffee. So nice to have that extra hour in bed, though truth be known I can stay in bed 24 hours a day if I'm a mind to.

Carry on children.

Scott, this was a wonderful idea for a costume! I sadly went to a graveside service yesterday for a friend of Scottish decent and part of our group of women who love to celebrate all things Scot. There was a piper that played "Danny Boy", "Amazing Grace" and "Going Home". We toasted her and Sir Connolly with mead at the end.

The funniest thing I read about Sean Connery was his saying he had to work on his speech as his accent was so strong that many people thought he was from Poland.

Which went on to remind me of my sister and husband visiting Ireland for the first time and having a few in a Pub with three men, one went to the rest room and my sister asked what country he was from. They answered that no one could understand him, he was from Scotland.

AND the unicorn skeleton was absolutely the best.
Moanday mourning greetings to all who enter. The joint was in surprisingly good shape this morning due, no doubt, to Ms Elizabeth being the last one out yesterday. She's such a neat-nick don't ya know. ;)

The contest is now officially closed. Those involved in its creation, organization and moderating are to be congratulated. Probably the best (of everything) contest since the second one here at Stories Space and that one got messed up by the winner being, moi. ;)

Anyway, coffee's cooking, the tea kettle is 'kettling' and there are cookies a'plenty in the cookie jars. Enjoy.

Later, Inspirators.
Good morning, Bill. Just checking to make sure the coffee is brewing. The furnace is toasting up the joint so all is well this Monday morning.

The contest may be over, but the waiting and anticipation has just begun...

Cold day here with maybe a cm or so of snow on the ground. Supposed to hit double digits Celsius starting tomorrow so it won't last, but it's winter's warning shot across our bow I think. It's not unknown to get snow here this early but not common either.

Contemplating what to write next. That comp kind of burned out my muse, I think, though I am once again contemplating what to do with the characters and setting I created for Night of the Wind. The Goddess Dances also takes place in that world, but a different region. Still might find an excuse to reference it in another story someday.

Hit a bit of a writing slump right when I didn't need one.

Also missing Anne today for some reason.

Morning, y'all. Just thought Inspirators would want to know that the much ballyhooed US Presidential election has been decided.

The bell-weather hamlet of Dixville Notch NH has reported complete though unofficial results. The big winner is Joe Biden who swept to a 5-0 win. Now it's past time for the rest of the USofA to start catching up. ;)

Anyway, turning to the serious business of drinking coffee, tea, and eating Sarah's cookies. No doubt all will rejoince at the news there' fresh hot coffee and fresh hot water for our tea sippers. Even better is the revelation that both cookie jars are filled with Sarah cookies. Enjoy.

Later, Inspirators
Glad you got the coffee on so early, Bill. It's time for a marathon of tv watching I think.

Got to find a place I can watch results. Cut the cord last year. I imagine CNN or maybe even CBC will have a livestream tonight. All my best to the Americans on here. You may have a rough month or two ahead politically.

Meeting day at work but I'm on a breather right now. Must get some lunch.

I don't think I can take a marathon. Just tell me in the morning how many more days we will have to wait for a final count. Maybe a nature program is on somewhere.
I'm keeping an eye on the results on a couple news services (CNN and The Globe and Mail) but otherwise just doing other stuff. Election night coverage tends to bore me these days. Just endless talk.
