It's International Women's Day today, I'm thinking of all the women in my life who have inspired me, helped me, criticised me, befriended me, laughed and cried with me, and the list could go on and on.

But I'm also thinking of all young women and girls, the challenges they face in the world, and the strengths they have and will develop. They, like all of us, are facing and will continue to face challenges in life, but there are many of them who are being nurtured and who KNOW their worth! Thinking of my nieces and young girls I know, they are inspiring and wonderful.

Have a grand celebration of International Women's Day everyone.

I always remember this day for an important reason. My mother died on the 8th of March in 2006. She will never be forgotten and neither will this day.

Juneteenth (a portmanteau of June and nineteenth; also known as Freedom Day, Jubilee Day, Liberation Day, and Emancipation Day)
A holiday celebrating the liberation of those who had been held as slaves in the United States. Originating in Texas, it is now celebrated annually on the 19th of June throughout the United States, with varying official recognition. Specifically, it commemorates Union army general Gordon Granger announcing federal orders in Galveston, Texas, on June 19, 1865, proclaiming that all people held as slaves in Texas were free.

I think Coming Out Day is celebrated elsewhere based on the tweets I've seen about it, but definitely worthy of celebration.

Of course, here in Canada it is Thanksgiving Day, where we celebrate the harvest and the CFL, not necessarily in that order.

We should celebrate other days of remembrance more often. With what is going on today I present this day, the 25th of February, as the Memorial Day for the Victims of the Communist Dictatorships in Hungary.

May all of the martyrs for freedom be remembered.
