And Really All They Wanted

May we share

So tired as you approach the very end
You roam inside with gentle wondering.

Consider if you really want it all.
To do it one more time, or even more.

To do romantic things that fill your days,
To love the ones you loved, and love some more

To cry and kiss and kiss and cry with joy,
To stumble and to fall, but rise anew.

To whistle as you walk along your way,
To gladly talk and laugh and sing and sigh.

To recognize the ways you may have failed,
And all that you have tried and all you won.

To know that often things have gone your way.
To realize that luck has played a role.

To see the good you did and what you gained.
And wonder why it never seemed to last.

You dream in wistful dreams about the past,
Remembering those you loved, the ones you held.

Why did you waste so many years in vain
Just wishing for your passions to be filled.

Accepting where you touched so many lives,
Accepting where you didn't touch enough.

It's such a simple truth you've come to know
Now that the days are getting short and dim.

Your one and only love was always there
So real, at times, at other times inside.

So often they were standing at your door
And really all they wanted was to share.
