Walking out into a starlit night.
My heart is filled with delight.

Hearing your call in the dark.
Wondrous sound, not at all stark.

Searching the shadows I find you.
Again hearing, your hoot hoo hoo

In the top of a lonesome pine.
You are silhouetted like a sign.

Against the stars and slivered moon.
I listen closely, hearing your croon.

Are you speaking to your mate?
Belly full of mice you have ate.

Or saying, your owlets have flown?
Empty nested now, they are grown.

Summer for us, has been a busy time.
She calls, with her hoo hoo hoot line.

All winter, we will have to fly alone.
Again in spring, new life we'll clone.

Feeling my cheeks turn pink.
Back into the house I slink.

Giving them their privacy.
Wondering, a bit excitedly.

Is this how voyeurs feel?
When caught, as they steal.

A serendipitous view.
Of lovers doing, what lovers do.
