Cradling Stars

When our sleeping bodies contour entirely,
nestled in the other's surrendered essence,
whether our dreams join like interlacing fingers,
or are eras and universes apart,
I still want you

To breathe in the night sky,
to cradle the stars in your soft hands,
and never burn from sneaking away
a fragile piece of the universe.

This is what makes you unlike any other,
your eyes can be much more than orbs
and complex networks of nerves,
they can become luminescent lamps

Sweeping across stars and
guiding me through the sky,
even the fading glow can leave
traces of love to fill the longing
voids framing the heavens.

When the last flicker leaves a ghost
of the song leaving your lungs,
I can find you across the realms
our sleeping bodies drift to,
every contour of our spirits
meeting and intertwining.

To close the distance universes place between us,
whether made of scalding sands or freezing oceans,
I still want everything you have been built from,
I will always want you

To breathe in the night sky,
to cradle and shiver the stars
with our exploring hands,
and to never burn from clutching
such a fragile piece of the universe.

This is what makes you unlike any other,
our eyes are more than orbs of tissues
pulling in and translating shapes,
they are mysterious lanterns

Sweeping across stars
and mapping lonely ancient skies,
even the very last swaying light
can leave traces of love to fill the hollows
spirits left framed in the heavens.

When the last one is put to rest
and it's exit is the song leaving your lungs,
I can find you anywhere
and will always want you.
