Friends are the only angels that truly exist
And this is the only world we will see,
Thus gain of a friend's a true gain
And dearly remembered,
As we should do,
Ever
Shall.

My mind often wanders to my first good dear friend
When we spent our youth in the Mojave
And we bonded and shared our lives.
We two faced the desert
As we should do,
Ever
Shall.

Along the Colorado two friends went hunting.
Searching the tules with my black buddy
For specimens to bring to class.
We traveled together
As we should do,
Ever
Shall.

On the dairy of one old friend I learned milking
Sedately from the udders of bovines.
He served his time in Vietnam
Did his duty just fine
As we should do,
Ever
Shall.

His was a fortune for which he would not have asked,
But it was his burden to bear for life.
A life that was cut short by pills.
His depth we remember
As we should do,
Ever
Shall.

One still sings and plays the keyboard in his old band
Just as he did back in our college days,
And we never forget our friends,
Who passed, or still remain
As we should do,
Ever
Shall.

Listening in to the transmissions of our foes
Was the mission my Naval friend and I
Shared as we bonded for our lives.
We always keep in touch
As we should do,
Ever
Shall.

He spent his whole life making up and playing tunes
And he still loves his life and goes to Paris
Once every year to be enriched.
And he shares it with me
As we should do,
Ever
Shall.

A little lost darling, she reached out to be friends.
She was willing to share her life with me.
After thirty years as spouses
We stay friends in our joy
As we should do,
Ever
Shall.

Her reason for being there was just loneliness,
A feeling her life should not be empty.
After sharing deep emotion
We formed a dear friendship
As we should do,
Ever
Shall.

My keenest newfound delight of all to this date
Is an angel from a blessed accident
Who gave all that she had and more
To make our friendship true,
As we should do,
Ever
Shall.

Ever so clear to this simple unworthy wretch
Is that my dear friends were joyous blessings.
In this vale of tears and of woes
My friends will always love
As we should do,
Ever
Shall.
