I don’t know when I lost her

But I know she’s no longer here

It might have been a day, a month

Maybe a whole long year

I don’t think anyone noticed

As she slowly slipped away

She wore her smile to please them

And showed up every day

There were times she tried to tell them

Sometimes gently, sometimes strong

They heard her voice but seldom listened

They didn’t see that things were wrong

She tried to make the best of things

Tried to accept life for what it was

Her resigned acceptance

Came with a heavy loss

She tried to find connection

And moments of escape

But her heart just seemed to harden

Secured by walls none could penetrate

No one saw her loneliness

No one saw her pain

I just know I’ve lost her

And might not find her again
