I Always Return To You

I Always Return To You

I'm tired, sad, mad and other things
I ponder ideas while I twist my rings
Ritual, chores, boredom, what reason
I'll be back, I have to leave this season

Repeated time and again, months go by
Needs, wants, I really do my best and try
Pieces given away, expecting nothing in return
Too many to count, when will I learn

You need that, I have needs too, mine not found
Staying, visiting, you wait for that sound
Promises, I'm over them, I know you are too
I wait for the storm to pass and return to you

I'm just tired from all these trips down that lane
Yet you never waiver, snow, hail, wind or rain
I do try seeing you when I'm down and it's gray
My vision narrows on those cold dark days

Patience is not my virtue, thankfully it, you possess
I need to ask for your help, but I do it less and less
Guilt surrounds me and my version of life is not quite right
We both wait, letting emotional waves cover our light

Deserving or not you've stayed and seen it through
Telling me over and again, it's what I get from you
You're my gift, somehow, something went right
I need to stop and just breath, not pick another fight

Your presence is an anchor I need when I feel fear
We both know this road, we travel it each and every year
This time, though I'm more tired and not sure I'll return
My pieces keep breaking, glue doesn't always work, I learn

Be free and leave, everyone else would have by now
Anger I've not seen, words shouted, you tell me why and how
I've loved you for better and far worse, you'd do the same for me
Open your eyes and look closely, we've weathered the stormy sea

Spring is coming, longer days, I'll await your return to our life
Friend, foe, companion, lover, but mostly I just want back my wife
I listen, you're right, I hate to admit. I'll be the fighter you've taught
Struggling back up, I wait for the light, I'll again, for you, give it all I've got
