After fall then comes the snow
when some plants die and some kids grow
as all the many cycles run their course.

One war is won another lost
and either way there is great cost.
The pious pray and sinners feel remorse.

Some lovers kiss while others fight
and claim they are not treated right.
One walks in another out the door.

Victors laugh and losers cry
and babies scream and old folks die
and mourners weep for those they did adore.

Within the universal scheme
we all pursue our private dream.
We hope for happiness and lasting love.

Some pray hard for wealth or power,
some wait until the final hour
to ask for help or mercy from above.

Every instant there’s a text
and people wait to see what’s next
staring at the screen on their smart phone.

Every hour we make posts
on all the trendy on-line hosts,
perhaps so we won’t feel lost and alone.

Maybe the fact that we get sad
if we can’t buy a new I-Pad
says quite a bit about the human race.

Maybe we’re just a funny lot
that god perhaps has long forgot
since it was long ago we fell from grace.

Maybe one day we’ll realize
that what we covet with our eyes
are not the things that ultimately matter.

Or maybe it is just too late
at this advanced and modern date
to ever stop our constant silly chatter.
