Permission

Survival is about giving yourself permission.

When I give,
It's completely.

My gifts never come with strings.

I’m not one who keeps a ledger.

When I give,
I seek nothing in return.

I give because,
I’m me.

I give because,
I know what it’s like to be without.

To cherish,
But be ignored.

To speak,
But not be heard.

To care,
But not feel cared for in return.

When I give,
It’s because,
I understand.

It’s because,
I know the value of love.

A wounded heart,
Won't stop me from giving again.

I won’t judge,
I won’t get angry,
When my gifts are taken for granted.

I won’t feel wounded,
When my strength is questioned.

I’ll just broadly smile,
As I walk away.

Beaming inside,
Relishing in the good memories.

Knowing the true gift,
Is giving.

Knowing I gave it my all.

There'll be no looking back.

Onward is my direction.

Giving to myself,
Life's most precious gift,
Permission!

Permission to be me.

Permission to love myself.

Permission to be happy.

Permission not to be broken.

Permission to carry on.

Because,
Survivors carry on.
