I lie here in bed tonight
My wife sleeping in my sight
Quiet is her breathing now
Breaks the silence of this night.

Sometimes I wonder if a past lover
Were lying here in your place
I cannot recall all their names
At times not even their face.

But all I see now is you
Sleeping near me on our bed
I don’t know what life would be
If they were here in your sted.

We've been through much in marriage
Troubles faced through these years
We've shared our love with laughter
And shed one too many tears.

I remember the day they told you
That the tests they did were positive
They had to operate and soon, today
It must be done, if you were to live.

The doctors operated on that day
They performed a task as they should
But deep down inside you, I knew
Felted robbed of some of your womanhood.

What happened then, was so long ago
In fact it was twenty two years past
Your still here beside me in our bed
Testament of our love is to ever last.

As for all those others I try recall
I will say just this without fear
To have them here with me tonight
I would not trade one of our tears.

So I promise to you this night
That the vow I made, I will keep
Yawn, I getting so weary now
I think I will join you now, in sleep.
