To an Unknown God

Tonight, I can not sleep

Because the eye of the Universe is watching me

The strands of the fabric of everything weave through my thoughts

And pull themselves through my breath

The voice of All rolls over my tongue

In the unfathomable blathering of waves

Or maybe it’s just insanity, some specter of my own making

Contrived subconsciously so that I will feel chosen or safe

But chosen by whom? A god long forsaken? Why?

Yet this Presence that visits me in the night…is powerful

Demanding my attention and devotion

This Spirit doesn’t care what I think or believe

This Spirit lives in this house and lights a fire in the hearth

Of an unbeliever. . . who adores the unknown.
