Universal Anguish

225 words 225 words
Free-wheeling down the lanes of life
We seldom think about the end of the road
That comes so often so swiftly
Before we can react
Or understand why
When there is no reason why
It just is
Life
Passing by
Passing away
Losses we feel and know others are feeling
Because it is a universal anguish
To be bereaved
And grieve.

They leave us, oh, so soon
Before we have time to touch them
To tell them
To let them really know
How much we care
That they were there and always will
Be there
As we grieve.

We mark the date
The day
The way in which they passed away
And it is never good
Never good
Never
Forever more they are gone
And we mark the date
As it passes once again
Each year
Each year
Each year we know we shall remember again
And grieve.

A parent should pass before a child
But even so
It is not easy or ever the way we want it to be
We would willingly
Give ourselves
You see
To know that they would continue
Continue to be
With us
Or just to be
You know this and so do I
For I have lost
As you have lost
And we still grieve.

And the words will echo in our ears forever.
"Sorry for your loss."
