Within These Walls

What lies just steps outside these gates?

The gates of life have opened up for me

Slowly I step and ponder what comes

If I were to leave, what lies beyond?

Many times I would wait until sunset

Just to see if they were left ajar

Sitting very still I dare not move

Most certain I would not get far

This place has come to agree with me

As I seem part of the majestic scenery

Within these walls I cry and laugh

Trying to bring past memories back

The Sun still shines yet the Moon luster lacks

If I were leave will I be safe?

Will I survive? Will I truly be free?

The gates have opened this is true

Yet if I were leave,

Where would my steps lead to?

Intriguing questions with no replies

This is my thought and how I express

That even if the gates unlocked remained

I would never step outside these walls

I sense the chance will pass unseen blinded by rage

These walls that have been inked, branded in my soul

With tears and sorrow, within these walls forever my cage
