A New Years Do-Over Competition

I’ve written a first draft 😊

I sat down and wrote it last night and I feel much better now I’ve got that out of my system. Editing has got to wait till next weekend, though, as I’m about to disappear to Cardiff for a week. I should still make the deadline.

I’m the meantime, I’m going to read the rest of the entries 😊

Mine is in the queue so once it goes up, we'll be at eight. Keep them coming. I think we've running around 16 in comps so hoping we can get there again.

I still need to start this. I have a vague idea of what I want to play out. Now to brainstorm the specifics. Can't wait to catch up on these between slamming my fists on my keyboard. 😇

Just tweeted about my story. Do others share their comp entries on social media or other forum sites they are on? It's a great way to promote your own story, but also to get some eyeballs to the site.

And who is still to come? We've got eight solid entries so far. But that's still well short of the sixteen or so we've had in the past so I am betting there's more writing goodness to come. This is not over yet...

9 ... 9 Exciting Comp Stories!!

Well, go through a bunch tonight. Good crop, I would say. Would be nice to have a few more, though.

I managed to read them all today. It was a nice quiet Saturday for a change. There are so many great takes on the theme. It will be interesting to see how many more turn up before Friday.

I have an outline and the beginnings written and a clear ending to aim towards, so I hope that this is a good sign that I'll be able to join the dog pile of entries.

I'm saving commenting until I submit something, but I'm loving everything I've read so far. Everyone should be proud of themselves.

Mine’s posted but might be rejected for being too long depending on which word count is gospel. It’s under 5k according to Word and the submission box but it’s 5,143 according the word count at the bottom of the unpublished story.

I await a verdict. I can re-edit if needed. 😊

I think there's known issues with that word count, or at least there used to be. So you're probably good.

Your right , Scott. Word count was accepted. I've read it and it is not just 'probably good'--Welshdreamer42 has written an excellent story.

If they don't get any more, I'd hope they'd just extend the short list to 11. Seems a bit unfair to have only one person finish off the short list, esp. with the quality of stories we're getting. Kind of singles them out as somehow lesser than the rest.

LOL. Might benefit others of us, too. This time went fairly quickly for me but I had the pressure of my looming eye surgery to push me. Sometimes I need a nudge to knuckle down and get something written, too (I almost wrote "get something on paper" but then realized that I haven't written a story on paper since, like, university).
