The Afterglow Of Loving

As we lie here in the afterglow of loving,

With your head upon my shoulder, and your soft breasts

Warm against my side, I gaze again in wonder,

Upon your lovely face, so peaceful in repose,

Remembering the many times before tonight

When we have danced among the stars in ecstasy,

Our perfectly matched spirits soaring high above,

As our bodies melt and fuse into each other

In the heat of rapture, our mutual passion

The natural expression of eternal love.

Although many years have passed since our first loving,

And age has left its mark upon our mortal flesh,

Familiarity has not dulled the delight

I knew that first time you so willingly yielded

To my ardent will, giving yourself completely

Without demur, sweetly returning my caresses

With equal passion, sealing your love with kisses,

And whispered words of adoration in the darkness.

My dearest love, nothing has diminished the joy

And tenderness of this repeated miracle.

As we lie here in the afterglow of loving,

Sleeping peacefully in each other's warm embrace,

Our mortal bodies transformed by the golden light

Of paradise into something ineffable,

A new creation, lifted high in joyful bliss,

I thank the kindly fates that brought us together,

For they have granted us the priceless gift of love

A precious offering of such divine beauty

That all the riches of the world are as nothing

In comparison to its radiant colours.
