HomePoetry Storiesa funeral

a funeral

Death and decay call for a meaningful day

gathered around a hole in the ground

questions and mourning depicted from the sobs

preacher says impersonal message as a goodbye

A box holding a body goes down and down

if the dead could speak what would they say

happy to see who all came to attend

maybe some choice words to those who pretend

questions of life fill everyone's mind

no answers to be given only false pretense

the deceased life depicted on a stone

words that speak only the brief

nothing of who or what was

a journey that has met the end

words should have been expressed left unsaid

promises with actions left lacking

families shed tears for friend they can never see again

a glorification of life from who they were

opinions of good and bad may help or curse

it funny how life means most when it's over

be aware of what you do when your here

you never know when you'll meet your end
