Did I ever tell you?

To all my friends and family...I never tell you how much you've influenced me and enriched my life

Did I ever tell you how much I adore your mind, dear friend?
A shard of cutting brilliance and delight
It inspires me to be more than I am
A dance between the two of us – one leading then the other
Not a waltz, more a Charleston
Maybe modern dance, perhaps?

Did I ever tell you how much I adore your heart, my mother?
Full of compassion and caring
It inspires me to be more like you
Look how you took us all on, even my cousins
We your children, where’d we be without you?
Lazy, feckless- A bad lot, I suspect

Did I ever tell you how much I adore your humour, dear friend?
Its bawdy undertones enrich my life
It inspires me to be funnier
A nice competition of one-upmanship
Shared jokes of seagulls and other nonsense
These private jokes, no one else gets, definitely

Did I ever tell you how much I adore your love, my beloved?
Unflinching and honest it enfolds me
It inspires me to want to love like that
Without boundaries and fearful hang-ups
When we are alone, the whole world doesn’t matter
Our warm little cocoon, buffered from outside
