May we return
to the place, we've never been?

I knew you once
when we were young,
you must have lived
before.

Yearning for a time
when youth enveloped me in joy;
were you there?

It seems you must have been
though impossible,
to be sure.

Not yet born.

But living,
alive,
in my yearning for that time.

Knowing the pleasures,
the moods of sharing
the precious times
together.

Browsing,
fingers touching each other,
along with the books upon the shelves,
laughing.

There must have been
laughter.

I remember the laughter
watching the world
passing by,
waiting to join the parade.

And the glimpse of you today...
you were there,
if only in my dreams,
when I was young.

Hearing your voice
of youth
brings it all back once again
from the past
before there was you.

Before there was you.

I remember knowing
you then,
that time before
when we laughed,
laughing as we touched fingertips.

Running together down the road
to evermore.

That time before that I knew,
must have seen,
what could be
if the world had been planned
for we two.

Let me remember what never was
and never, ever has been.
