The Woman in the Window on Netflix.

I had read the book but thankfully had forgotten the ending. It did not get great reviews but I enjoyed it. I love Amy Adams.

I know! The critics really blasted this, but we enjoyed it a lot! Amy Adams and Juilianne Moore (dreamy sigh) are both really good.

For a good story, google the book sometime. The guy who wrote it is quite a piece of work. He's a Talented Mr. Ripley level liar.

I looked him up, you are right, he has a lot of issues. I wonder if that is why he hasn't published anything new. Blaming his lying/deception on bipolar disorder is especially upsetting.

I've tried watching Tenet on HBO max a few times but can't get into it. I got lost in the beginning and didn't have the patience to continue. Maybe I'll give it another shot one night when I can't sleep.

We saw this in the theater, and Talia leaned into my ear and said "I have absolutely no idea what's going on." She hated it. I didn't understand it any better, but I kind of enjoyed trying to figure it out. I even watched it again. Talia made fun of me. I still didn't understand it, but it made a LITTLE more sense the second time around.

Looking forward to the new Conjuring movie. Not a big fan of sequels, but this series is better than most.

The Vast of Night on Amazon.
This movie was such an unexpected delight. Right up my alley, in so many ways - I enjoyed it thoroughly.

I've recommended it a few times. I didn't like Tenet and I really wanted to. Same with The Woman In The Window. I was about halfway through the book and I stopped reading it, but thought I would give the movie a go. I shouldn't have and just rewatched Rear Window.

The new Conjuring is the last one I saw. If you are a fan of the series you should enjoy this one.

Damn straight. I hated Tenet. I think I’ve mentioned that before in another land, far, far away.

Denzel’s son was miscast. I think he is an excellent actor, but this was not the right movie for him. I suspect the GoT showrunners had some influence on this flick. Or Momento’s. I might give the latter movie another shot.

Funny story. I almost met Mr. Washington in Mexico. The place we were at in Neuvo Vallarta has a marina. In slides this big boat. Yacht I think the high seas snobs call them. Anyway, we hung around eating lunch or something, then left to hunt for shells or something. We later learned Denzel and family had pulled in and out during the time we were away on the beach. Nuts. But this was pre-Ballers and Black Klansman fame. Both fantastic products in their own right. I wouldn’t have know him. He might have still been playing football. I can’t recall.

Please help Mandalla. He has a Cadillac stuck in his eye.

Was watching West Side Story the other day just to torture the kids. I
I’ve got The Doors and The Last Picture Show recorded. Just not in the mood to watch any movies right now. Haven’t been for months.

I saw zero Oscar nominated movies. All seemed depressing or just a little too forced-woke for me. Awakenings. That was a good movie.

Hur hur. You think I can actually afford a Cadillac? Besides, aren't they all godawful SUVs now? Or is that Lincoln?

The torture is that they are remaking it. For f-s sake, it's one of the best musicals ever made on stage or screen. New stage productions, sure. But the movie does not need a remake.

Wife and I watched The Big Short recently. Pretty good, though an interest in recent history and financial markets helps considerably. I found it odd that Michael Burry, played by Christian Bale, seemed underused vs. Steve Carrell as Mark Baum. OTOH, Carrell gave the standout performance of the movie IMHO so that's not altogether a bad thing. The little sketches with celebs explaining WTF was going on were a bit odd, but no more so than the other fourth wall breaking that was going on (mostly by Ryan Gosling as Deutsche Bank manager Jared Vennett, who is based on a real person but that person asked to have their name changed for the movie).

FYI, I watched it on Netflix but I think it was leaving Netflix, at least in Canada, at the end of June.

I didn’t want to, because I knew it was depressing, but I watched Nomadland. It was as expected. But I watched because Francis M. is an incredible actor. I love her to bits. Someday, I want to see her to go Kathy Bates crazy in a movie. A hammer to the tied ankle would be delightful.

Next Up: The new Mortal Combat with the boy. We’ll take turns screaming, “MOR-TAL COM-BAT!”

Given Hollywood's penchant for pointless remakes of perfectly good movies, shouldn't Misery be due soon?🙄

I came up with a drinking game for non-drinkers.

Watch Personal Shopper. Do a shot every time Kristen Stewart makes a facial expression.

Two hours later, you'll still be sober. smile

It’s SO frikkin dull. Not so much bad as tedious. The missus liked it better than I. That’s not unusual. She’s nicer than me.

Black Holes : The Edge of All We Know. (Netflix)

It's a documentary about two rather different groups of scientists working on problems related to black holes. One is the Event Horizon Telescope, the globe-spanning group that got us the first actual picture of a black hole's event horizon a couple years ago. The other is the smaller group (basically a bunch of friends) that worked with the late Stephen Hawking on his final paper on the "black hole information paradox", a problem in astrophysics that Hawking himself first identified in the seventies. Hawking's death is dealt with partway through the movie. A couple other black hole related projects come up, including the LIGO project's first observation of gravity waves from colliding black holes, but those two teams are the focus. It's more about the process of science and how scientists work together than about black holes themselves. Still fascinating, though.

I was chatting with a scientist once who had a theory that every black hole was in the same place. As mad as it sounds, it kind of made sense when he explained it. He reckons that the universe is doughnut shaped. We still have so much to learn.

The host of PBS Spacetime,  a science YouTube channel I watch, once explained that some think there is only one electron in the universe that just keeps bouncing around through space and time. Apparently the math does hold up under some interpretations of quantum theory, but he was not a supporter (he is an Aussie astrophysicist who teaches at a college in the US).

Short version: theoretical physics and astrophysics go down some really weird rabbit holes.

I agree, I've been watching a lot of stuff about quantum physics. It's fascinating. I love the theory on quantum superposition and entanglement. I even wrote a story about it on the other site. The very thought of something being in two places at the same time, coupled with its ability to travel faster than light is mind blowing. The quantum world is a very strange place indeed.

Never heard of it. I’d love to watch a movie about the making of my favourite chocolate bar. And now that Dairy Queen has an Old Henry Blizzard, I’m in sugar bomb heaven.
