Invisible

Lucy was a house-elf. Every day she dusted, scrubbed and polished to keep her home spotless.

On Saturdays, Lucy’s family went out but, even so, Lucy never shirked. She cleaned her adored family’s house to a gleaming shine and, job done, admired her handiwork. How pleased her family would be.

But Lucy’s labours went unnoticed. Tired from their Saturday activities, the family tossed their wet coats over the polished banister railing and stomped muddy boots across the hand scrubbed tiles. They looked through Lucy as if she were invisible, never noticing her tears or the tremble of her lower lip.
