It's My Heart

To my parents who may never read this.

Do you think you know what's best for me?
Do you think I really care?
It's only for my happiness, you say?
How is that remotely fair?

You never give him a chance.
You continue to say I can do better.
I deserve so much more,
But does it really matter?

It's my heart you know!
I choose what I want.
No one else can decide my happiness.
Otherwise, misery would taunt.

I am not a damn puppet!
I don't want to live that life.
That life you had chosen for me
It cuts like a knife.

Don't make me choose.
My head and my heart are the same.
He is the one I want.
Even if he doesn't lead me to fame.

Stop looking with those eyes
Filled with doubt and scrutiny.
It's my fucking heart, I say.
You can't decide my destiny.

You say you'll support me.
I know it's a lie
But that is for another poem
A subject foul as lye.

I don't need your counsel.
I know what to fucking do.
Stop thinking I am a child.
Start believing I'm not too.

I am sick of your words.
Let me do my part.
Let me choose my path.
Let me follow my heart.

Just know, I deserve my happiness
Not a perfect man.
I love every single perfect imperfection
Because he is only human.

Nothing will change.
For this is merely my start.
My love for him will grow.
Just remember, It's my heart!

And not yours.
