Strength

A thread of truth
Flits through your eyes
But how can I believe?
You’ve told so many, many lies
And managed to deceive -
My worn-out heart
And mind
And soul
Bled my every drop -
To see you stand before me now
Takes all the strength I’ve got
Not to lift my arms to you
And gather your embrace
I watch as you see how I slow
Doubt now fills your face -
I raise my hand, to halt your touch
All trace of weakness fades
I see you understand me
Now,
And turn, and walk away.
