(Wine and Roses)

(Wine and Roses)

Pan comes piping

cloven hooves high-steppin' it

white flutter-by maidens

ring in on the changes

in the glade of interleaved

filtering a sun-dappled glen

where she sits composing

a secret audience

the river laughing

nearby harmonizes

with tiger-lilies and tickled trout

swimming against the beat

cricket castanets drone

keeping rhythm, beating time

and time has flown

the knave of hearts fans out across

into sweet loamy detritus

no rake for the leaf litter

swept up by the breeze

green premature fox-grapes

remember last year's mead

on her tongue

her heart past overfilling

bursts, showering icewein

over untamed english roses

cascading a wild trellis

late to the dance

a ragged soul takes flight
