What was the experience that you had in life that made you realize that you were an adult?

Mine was when my nephew that was born 4 days after my 20th birthday was dating a woman that had 2 young sons. My nephew told me when he was watching those boys, if a difficult situation arose then he would ask himself, “What would Uncle Bob do when he was watching me and my older brother and this kind of situation happened?”

I was both flattered and a little scared that my actions were being used as a “good example”.

Wedding, maybe? Which is a bit scary when you consider that I was married at 27. Or maybe it was my nephew on my wife's side being born a month after the wedding. Hell, I suppose having my own kid (33) could even qualify. I think I took a long time to transition into true adulthood.3BcyWSuIGqrS83T3

After I turned eighteen, during the spring of my senior year of high school. I walked through the parking lot behind a couple of guys in my grade. They were discussing asking their parents for twenty bucks to go to the basketball game and get fast food that night.

I slid my hand into my pocket and fingered a hundred dollar bill I had earned from my full-time job the week before. I realized I wasn't dependent on my parents for money to pay for my things.

I'd say when I realized that I had fallen in love with my future husband! I was eighteen and he was twenty and in the police academy. It hit me that he was the guy that I’d spend the rest of my life with. Got married at nineteen and never regretted a second

I feel I'm still struggling. Part of me will always say never. Then the other part is very happy being an adult.

When I started getting really bad growing pains in my legs. I told my mother and she said: "I think you are experiencing growing pains." A few years later, on my birthday, I got my first application in the mail to get a credit card. People thought I was crazy for NOT applying for it.

This is rather odd I am sure. I was taking a shower in my apartment at the university. I may have been about twenty-five then and had served a tour in the Navy. But as I showered it occurred to me, 'your mother did not have to tell you to take a bath or shower. You did it on my own.' That was when I fully understood I was a full-grown adult.

I have remembered. I was 17 and had a very unhappy situation at home, the latest of which was "if you live under my roof you will do what you are told". Wow! I didn't have to live under that roof, I could find a way to share an apartment. Big light bulb moment.

Probably the first time I boarded an airplane in my flight attendant uniform and saw 180 people staring at me. I realized then that they were depending on me and I was younger than most of them. It got easier every flight
