We were born from the void
Laid at the feet of the earth
Raised in its lush and beautiful bounty
Attempting to avoid the curse of our birth
And yet, it's ever-present in our hearts
You can see it in various works of arts
The destiny that plagues humanity
It is the burden of the void we carry
Traced back to the beginning
Some tried to fill it with winning
To beat the odds at any cost
Be it violence, sacrifice or loss
Some found reprieve by numbing their state of mind
At the cost of empathy and the virtue of being kind
Multilayers of going broke
Empty answers in puffs of smoke
Others attempt to emulate dragons
Hoarding wealth in large wagons
Watching unfortunates suffer,
Is their psychological buffer
Some drown their sorrows in lust
Just for a moment of synthetic trust
Hidden between a stranger's legs or their bust
They are compelled to do what they must
Others gorge themselves
Stuffing their faces with anything on the shelves
Chewing and consuming until there's nothing left
All because their heart is bereft
A million and one ways we tried to escape
The reality of our human landscape
An unspoken truth we try to avoid
We are destined to carry the burden of the void
