Chocolate Chip Tragedy

A tiny morsel lost

Darn it! I just lost a chocolate chip on the floor. It fell right out of the pumpkin chocolate chip cookie; I was so much enjoying. What a bummer! Since that is the best part or shall I say the highlight of it all. Yes, of course, the rest of the cookie is good too. Oh but, when it comes to those sweet little chocolate chips it’s like losing a small treasure. They are so delicious! Such delightful little morsels melting i...

I discovered gardening recently. Yes, I know I didn't invent sticking some seeds in the dirt and hoping it turns into something, I mean I recently discovered the hobby, which is now an obsession of mine. Growing up, my father had a vegetable patch. I remember very vividly each summer looking at the bumper crop of sweet corn, tomatoes, cabbages and herbs that had grown. Back then it hadn't interested me. I think because it...

Open Letters - 2

More general open letters

Back by popular demand! Here are some more general open letters from my life, for you, my internet friends.Dear Hanukkah food- You are so delicious and so tasty. I'm not even 'properly' Jewish but I would convert just for the food. A Holiday where deep fried foods are eaten? Yes, please. It's not good for my waist line, but the food is just so tasty, and apparently I have weak will power. But that's what New Year's resolu...

The Flavor of Duck

I'm afraid I'll bore you, I have a complicated thought, about food, relationships, and happiness.

Lately, all the food I eat tastes like nothing. I might as well be fueling a lawn mower, or eating dirt like a plant for all the joy eating gives me. That might be part of why I'm thin. My mom would say my slight build is because I'm unhappy, and when I find a good man I will find joy and gain a lot of weight. Well, she wouldn't say that, but she would talk around it. She wouldn't say skinny people are unhappy, anymore th...

My last story that I published on this site was deep and dark and very real life, so I thought I would lighten the mood a little this week and have a bit of fun with this story. I mentioned in one of my other stories, that American influences are gaining popularity here in New Zealand, and that I had a few questions so here we go. Some questions and maybe a rant or two, about the growing American cultural influence in NZ....

Open Letters

General open letters

Unlike my other two 'Open letters' that I have written, these are very general and do not fit into any specific category like my makeup and underwear open letters. These are just general topics from my everyday life, that I am sharing with you, my internet friends. Also, on a side note, apparently open letters are now my thing as this will be the third 'installment' of open letters I have published. Dear the girl I live w...

She Fills My Loving Cup

I believe that more than a few here can relate to this one...

She’s hot and wet when she greets me in the morning, I know of no better way to wake up. And when I need her she is always there, She fills my loving cup. It is an affair that has been going on for years, And she will continue to comfort when I’m old. When I am down she perks me up, She warms me when I am cold. Dark and bold she comes to me, More beautiful than any sunrise. Like a gypsy with her magic charms, She has the...

Powerful Love - Chapter Six

Being around the right people can always cheer you up

Chapter Six - Nick I make my way over to the table and sit there quietly waiting for Oasis to return. I sit there for about two minutes before I see her exit the bathroom, she slowly makes her way over to the table and takes her seat. We sit in silence, while we wait for our dinner to arrive. After a couple of minutes I see my brother, Justin, making his way over to us with our food. “Hello, it’s nice to meet you, my name...

The Humble Cucumber

What is so special about cucumbers?

Can anybody tell me just what is so special about cucumber sandwiches? You know those dainty, crustless smelly little things you sometimes get at parties? I loathe cucumbers. I loathe brussel sprouts more though but that's another story I will write sometime. WHO decided they should be served at a party? Probably someone in the 1800's having a garden party. Didn't have anything else in the garden except cucumbers so prete...

Biscuits and Gravy for Breakfast

The Kitchen Gods strike again!

I decided to have biscuits and gravy for breakfast today. I can't make biscuits from scratch any better than by using Bisquick, and that eliminates a lot of measuring and fiddling. So I got out the box of Bisquick, and read the recipe on the side panel. Bisquick recipe is: (edited for brevity) 2-1/4 C Bisquick  2/3 C milk Mix to soft ball stage and dump out.  Knead ten times.  1/4" thick  Cut into biscuits  450 oven - 8-1...
